Endless "Loading Visual Studio"

Hi there, I’ve got a weird problem with Unreal Engine. It isn’t engine-crashing or anything, but it certainly has me worried. I’m not sure when it started, but it seems that every time that I try to open a C++ file from within the editor, the “Loading Visual Studio” dialogue box in the bottom right corner of the screen doesn’t ever disappear. I’ve tried it on several different projects now. Is this just me or is there a real problem here?

Hey there, that issue has been introduced in 4.18, so we’ll just have to wait for the fix.

This issue will be fixed in the next release.

Issue is fixed in 4.19 Preview, from my anecdotal experience today.

Issue still happens, 4.19.

Still happens, 4.19.

It still happens to me in 4.19.2.

Still happening for me in 4.19.2

still happens in 4.20 … geez you would think such a simple bug would have been flushed out by now…

:-/

still happening in 4.26.x

Yeah, still happens in 4.26.2, can confirm

I can also confirm this that the long loading issue is related to Visual studio but the UE4 will crash the binary files if you closed the visual studio from task manager and tried to open the open project in the editor if it is from source build 4.26.2.
Happen to me 2 times, and recompiled the engine…
When you are downloading dependencies for the source code the unreal server at cdn.unrealengine.com will not be responsive and will be so many time out errors, you have to download dependencies again and again and when it will be compiled… it needs 110GB of pure free space to succeed, other wise it will failed to compiles.
In short… I have lost 200GB of internet data by just downloading dependencies… other physical brain stress is extra. :frowning:

5.0.3 and 5.1.1 still happening
