Skeletal mesh importing mesh as bone

Hi! Im trying to make a simple bucket rig for use in VR, however, when i import my rigged bucket from Maya (Two meshes Handle and Bucket), it is importing my parented part of the mesh as part of the bone hierarchy. Do you know any way to prevent this from happening without having to skin my mesh to the bones? I want it to look natural like a hinge, not have it deform.

We do not support parenting-based rigs. You will need to skin the mesh to the bones if you need the object as a skeletal mesh. If you set your skin weights to 100% for the joint, the mesh will act like a rigid mesh and not deform.
