[Question] IES Profiles

Whatever IES Profile I apply the light looks exactly the same.

Do IES profiles for lights actually work yet?

Hi Mads,

Yes, IES profiles are working fine. Here are two of the exact same Point Light, each with a different IES profile on it.

You may just need to make sure that the profiles you are using are distinctly different from each other.

Cheers

But is this with or without IES Brightness on?

Either option works. But when Use IES Brightness is enabled, you are expected to also enable Inverse Squared Falloff (see the tooltip for Use IES Brightness)

Okay. I tried using the IES profiles to make a flashlight sort of light. But it didn’t seem like anything really changed (First Person view) when I applied the IES. It’s a spotlight I believe which is set to movable.

This information taken from the IES Documentation page should clarify the situation regarding spotlights for you:

Spotlights
IES Light profiles basically turn point lights into spotlights (visually speaking) and using an IES profile on a spot light will operate the same way as on a point light except the spotlight cones will mask the IES profile effect. However, since the projection area of a spot light is an 179 degree arc at it’s maximum, you lose any IES data past that point.

So, they are best when used on Point lights.

Right, that might be why I see no change. Thanks.
