Should I use Unreal Engine?

Hi all

I am an Architect and we have been commissioned to develop “the most innovative and smart apartment layout for an apartment”. We are thinking of having moving elements (sliding walls, kitchen counter turn dinning table, etc. The end product will have to be 2D drawings, 3D renders and 3D printed model and also an animation.

The software needs to be flexible and easy to edit as we have to go through several options with the client.

I came across Unreal Engine in my research and the renders and animations seem awesome but I have no experience using it (We use Archicad, Revit and sometime Sketch up).

What do you guys think? Is Unreal engine a suitable software to use? If not, what else would you recommend?

Thank you so much

In my humble opinion, if you need really fast iteration on rendering/interactive/animation on real time, UE4(Unity also) is great for such kind of jobs.

Learning curve of UE4 is not bad at all, if you are familiar with node based software, such as Houdini, Nuke.

The bottom line for me is fast iteration on fly is crucial.

If you care about frame per seconds, stable application, heavy user friendly interaction, learning curve will be stiffer.

Downside of UE4 for lightweight application, at very first stage, you are probably overwhelmed by many features which you won’t use at all.

Im with on this, you might want to check Projects Archives - UE4Arch and perhaps hire one of the archviz people there to either tutor you, or as someone who can set up the foundation for you.
