Volumetric Lightmap - Gap between shadow and mesh

Hey.

There’s a big gap between the shadow and the floor (the door is literally touching the floor here). I remade my lightmap and changed the VLM, but can’t manage to make it work. Any ideas?

In this case I think the floor object is more important… What is the resolution of it’s lightmap?
Is it separate or part of other meshes/walls?
What light do you use that cast shadow?

All the housing components are individual meshes. The floor resolution is set to 1024. In this scene I’m using only a Skylight (i know the picture shows a directional light as well, but i’ll not use it for now. When I had the directional light, I played with the Shadow Bias setting, but no luck).
My only light is an Stationary Skylight.

I guess your lightmass settings are good because I see nice shadows in the upper corner… although it’s a different mesh! :wink: I don’t know how big your floor is and how much shadow information it has to hold…
Could you take a screenshot with the NOW settings and lighting only?
Also… how thick is that door? …looks really thin… do you have two sided material on it just in case? /and also set as double sided geometry/ …or to make it a lot thicker for a test bake and see if the shadowing is still bad… just ideas what I would try! :wink:

I remade the door a little bit ticker, changed and played with two sided material and double sided geometry, but nothing changed. The skylight settings are pretty simple and the world settings just have some small adjustments (except on the Volumetric Lightmap). The floor is not big, and I increased the lightmap just for the sake of testing, but not even with 1024 gave me good results.

The baked door as static looks fine, but I want to use as a movable object. Maybe the volumetric lightmap still has a looong way to go before being usable for archviz?

Oh sorry I didn’t know your door was set to movable, I thought your whole scene was static!! :S
So you’re using a stationary skylight with a cubemap? …what shadow option you’re trying to use?

But yeah, the door is movable and got a lightmass importance around the area. What do you mean with " what shadow option"? In the mesh settings, light settings or world settings?
