Physics Constraint to attach two components simulating physics

Hi i’m trying to create a revolver for a VR game, i want to be able to reload the gun by pressing a button that releases the cylinder and allows it to be affected by gravity. i have a physics constraint attached to the body of the gun and the cylinder, and when i disable the physics on the body it works as intended but if both are simulating physics the gun body falls leaving the cylinder floating mid air.
