Rain drops on a material

Hi guys, I’m trying to create an effect of rain drops on a car material examples being shown at the end.

Now I’ve made a normal map and when I add that to the car body material I get the shape of the raid drops perfectly, this also works when I create a translucent material and add a refraction value while lerping based on a mask (matching the raindrops position on the normal map). However, I can’t add refraction to the car material due to it being of the blend mode Opaque & using the shading model Clear Coat, the same issue comes about when I try and use a material layer blend. After this I created a second slightly bigger version of the mesh is using and placed a translucent material over it, this gave me the refraction I wanted but at a cost of losing the normal maps defined edges.

In short is there any way for me to get the appearance of rain drops on my car body material that I’m missing (looking for realism)

Hope this makes sense and thanks
