If you are using Maya 2017, the Maya scripts directory would typically be located in ~/Library/Preferences/Autodesk/maya/2017/scripts.
This folder doesnt exist. If i create the folder structure correctly and add the userSetup.py maya does not run the maya tools install dialog box.
i have also tried in:
users/shared/autodesk/maya/2017/scripts
If I browse to the file within the plugin manager i get error message:
// Error: file: /Applications/Autodesk/maya2017/Maya.app/Contents/scripts/others/pluginWin.mel line 767: (userSetup)
i also tried putting in either of the plugins folders:
users/shared/autodesk/maya/2017/plugins
users/shared/autodesk/maya/plugins
when I did this it show up in the plugin manager but when i click the loaded button i get error
// Error: line 1: (userSetup)
any advice would be really appriciated as the documentation doesnt seem to be up to date. thanks
users/username/library/Preferences/autodesk/maya/scripts is the right location however is hidden. pres shift+cmd+full stop to unhide.
this is confusing as there is another path to a scripts folder on the drive that is not hidden as mentioned in the documentation at
Library/Preferences/Autodesk/maya/2017/scripts.
it really would be helpful to update the installation instructions to make it more clear as the paths are almost identical but refer to different locations. why maya needs so many scripts folders is confusing as well! thanks
Alright… For everyone reading this, after you did what @dedbeat_ wrote, just restart Maya et voila, it’s working. When you change the menu to “Rigging” you’ll see A.R.T.1.0.
Thanks
