Fortnite/Paragon Online Subsystem

Does anyone know which online subsystem fortnite/paragon uses for matchmaking? I get the sense they don’t use Steam since I don’t have a Steam account and I can still play fortnite. It would be nice if we could somehow get access to this, perhaps through purchasing it. I am guessing it is proprietary in nature, so I’m not optimistic about its availability to developers using the unreal engine. However, it would be nice to know if it was.

By the way, I am not entirely sure I fully understand what an online subsystem is, but I get the sense it is some server service that is separate from the game clients and that it connects clients to the same game server process.

Bump… I would also like to know what this architecture is and if it can be used for our platform development.

They are basically using an internal version of the Epic Online Services for all the server backend for Fortnite. There’s an SDK for the service that includes everything the Steam online subsystem does and more.
