How big should I make my landscape?

It is hard to know how many divisions to create when setting up a landscape size. Can anyone please suggest what is an optimal size of a landscape that has enough divisions for me to create good typography like hills and valleys so my land features look smooth but at the same time this landscape should me small enough so I can place grass on it and it doesn’t slow down too much. It is hard to come up with an optimal size but I really need some suggestions on this because I don’t know how many boxes to create inside my grid or how big the grid needs to be to run smoothly on my computer. My computer is strong but not too strong because it has crashed a few times when I added too much grass. Maybe this is because I didn’t uncheck shadows for my grass. With that said what are some suggestions to prevent crashes when setting up a landscape painting terrain and painting vegetation - trees and grass to my land ? Are there things like getting rid of shadows or limiting the number of trees to keep Unreal Editor from crashing or slowing down too much ? I would like to know the rules to help me with my projects.
