Paragon Asset Tutorial

I’ve been trying to pick up blend spaces more and with all of the animations that come with the paragon assets, it seems like that would be a great way to dig in deeper.

However, i’ve run in to two problems.

  1. every tutorial i’ve seen for blend spaces is about the 1D blend space. Which sure it tells you enough to do the same thing in a 2D space but most of the tutorials i’ve seen just say “ok here’s how you blend a walk to run” and thats it and some will show a little bit more or say “here are your next steps”

I’ve been able to make it a bit past that, which leads to problem 2

  1. The naming conventions dont make any sense to me.

For example one of the things i’ve seen for a 2D blend space is to run sideways, essentially turning your body as you run, which I noticed for the Serath asset that it has 43 different jog related animations. I attempted to do the run to the side based on some tutorials i found, however the jog_right and jog_left are not really what i expected.

It would be great if there was a tutorial that basically told you how to map all 43 of them. Obviously not doing each and every one but maybe doing like 4 or 5 that show the different types of transitions.

The biggest problem I’ve had in playing with this stuff is that there really arent too many “ready to go” setups like this so it makes it really easy to just go learn the blend spaces without having to locate free motion capture stuff (i’ve found and used the free stuff, mostly pretty stand alone stuff, was helpful but sort of leaves you hanging for more)

I guess there is also sort of a 3rd problem, which is that the docs are more about “this does this” and less about “here is how you do this” which makes reading the docs to get started pretty hard. I’ve found a lot of “here is a super basic tutorial on how to do X” but going from X to something functional is REALLY tough.

Also the sort of answer I am looking for here (since this isnt a simple here is your answer type question) is either a link to some resources that help you go from the very simple single action (idle/run) 1D blendspace to a more complex set of movements or even perhaps “someone is working on that, watch here”

Because Paragon Assets are now free to use - you can expect more decent Animation training streams from Epic team. They already have one and that will be a series of them. Animation Blueprint Setup & Walkthrough | Live Training | Unreal Engine Livestream - YouTube As additional option you can purchase some Animation System from marketplace and try to understand it completely. Your question is like - How can I manage complex Animation System? That depends really on what is your goal.
