Vive VR Preview screen half blurred

Hi

When selecting the VR Preview I randomly get to choose the VR/Desktop option - which then works fine - or the player just opening without this option and then looking half blurred, like shown in the attached image. Sometimes it helps to restart Unreal. Unplug the USB and such. But sometimes it don’t. Any suggestions on this?

I’m using Unreal 4.19.2 and just the standard Unreal Studio Product Viewer scene.

That is an interesting one. Does it happen with this project only? Can you reproduce it on other projects?

Unfortunately I don’t have access to other projects. It’s my first go with the HTC Vive. But the error it is quite consistent - in its random way - even if I start from scratch with the standard Studio Product Viewer scene.

I’ve tested the hardware and it works fine on steam etc.

The thing is looking at the image this looks like a really weird post process effect, can you confirm there is no post-processing being applied? One way to check that is to press keys F1 to F5 in order to cycle between rendering modes. In wireframe mode, you shouldn’t see this blurry thing.

I deleted all post-processing. Still there. Even in wireframe.

That is really weird.

It is! And what is that strange object in the corner?

Is there anyway to force the preview to go directly to VR without the Desktop/VR option?

I am not sure if I understood the question. What do you mean by “directly to VR”? When you move the headset, does that object stays there? Maybe it is the default pawn, which is a grey sphere.

When randomly the option to select “Desktop or VR” is presented, and I choose VR, it all works flawless. So maybe there is a way to force this choice? Like always use VR when doing previews.

The strange object could very well be the default pawn. It always stays the same.

That I don’t know. Never had this problem before.

I found the solution. Product Viewer Tool/VR/Spawn VR Play Editor. It should be on.

So, is this a “safety” feature?

BTW. You should write this as an answer and mark the question as resolved. It could help other with the same problem.

A safety feature? I guess it forces the player to start in VR.
Anyway, thank you for your suggestions.

Solution found: enable “Spawn VR Play Editor” within the Product Viewer Tool/VR.
