Crash on Launch - Oculus DK2

Launching any 4.3 game (except couchKnights which works) as standalone or from Windows Folder causes a crash when the DK2 is active and the 0.4 oculus services are stopped. Running extended mode.

Win7 Home
16gigs ram
gtx 570 - latest drivers

I can’t seem to attach the logs. I’m a newbie, what am I missing?

Hey 3dlight,

You should be able to find you log files by following this route in windows explorer: c:\Program Files\Unreal Engine\4.3\Engine\Programs\CrashReportClient\Saved\

You can also find your project logs via this route: c:\Users(your.name)\MyDocuments\UnrealProjects

You can select the paper clip at the top of your comment box and choose a file using that route.

Could you also provide your DXdiag for your PC?

Let me know if this helps. Thanks!

Howdy 3dlight,

Just wanted to check in and see if there has been any update on your issue. If it is still occurring, Could you please provide the information asked for in the above post? If it is not, please let me know so that I may close the issue.

Thanks!

I’m having the same or similar issue, where it worked for a little while, and then it just refuses to, I’m going to restart the machine, to see if that fixes it, and will report back, shutting down the editor and re-launching does not fix it.
I tried 4.4 as well and it ran a couple of times and now refuses to. I don’t know if that has anything to do with the shaders still compiling, since it seems to be stuck in the fact that it’s skipping 5 frames (from the Logs) and then crashes, once the shaders are compiled. Which makes me think it maybe a burden / hit initally to kick over the rendering thread which is something oculus needs to accommodate. But I’m not certain otherwise I’d fix it and post a patch so I’ll let the people who know what they’re talking about resolve this…

Log Files for Oculus DK2 Crash

P.S. I’m running Oculus driver 0.4.1 and have “Paused” the service, and am in Legacy mode / Extended Desktop.

On that note, I did try it on an empty level with nothing but the player start / bsp and sky, and it still crashes.

Howdy 3dlight and DCrosby,

Thank you both for reporting on this issue. We are currently in the works for pushing out a hotfix that will fix a lot of the DK2 issues. This hotfix will be released very soon. If you still see the same issues occurring once the once hotfix is releases, please let me know so that we may further investigate.

I am going to leave this issue open until you can confirm that the hotfix have fixed the issue.

Thanks and have a great day!

Howdy 3dlight,

With the release of the 4.4.1 preview, have you had the chance to try out your DK2? There is a hotfix in the preview that updates the use of Oculus 0.4.1 Beta SDK.

Please let me know if you experience any issues with your DK2 from this preview.

Thanks!

Hey 3dlight,

We have not heard back from you in a few days, so we are marking this post as Resolved for tracking purposes. If you are still experiencing the issue you reported, please respond to this message with additional information and we will offer further assistance.

Thanks!

Sorry, was very busy. I have since re-installed my entire system (win7) from scratch, and the problem went away. I was able to reproduce crashes by enabling the config option for LPV. I think that may have been the reason all my demos were crashing. If I enable lpv in the configs, I get crashes on pretty much everything.

To clarify, I have installed the 4.4.1 hotfix, and it works great (though I have a new bug I’ll report). Direct mode is fantastic. No more monitor fiddling. When I reinstalled my system, I was on 4.4.0 and the rift worked fine in extended, which is more evidence to me that it was the LPV toggle.

go ahead and close it. Thanks!

Thanks for the great feedback 3dlight. Since you have posted the new bug report, Would I be able to close this issue due to the fact that you currently have the DK2 running or is any further investigation needed for this issue?

Just let me know. Thanks!
