No FXAA or Temporal AA on mobile VR?

I’m using the Google VR plugin and packaging tests of a simple Arch viz room (no furniture) for the Redmi 4 mobile, (specs: Adreno 505, OS: MIUI 9.2.3.0, based on Android 6.0.1)

I can’t get any “FXAA” or “temporal AA” working on mobile at all. (no problem in editor)

I can get AA when using the expensive Mobile HDR with 2x,4x or 8x MSAA.
Adding “FXAA” or “temporal AA” whilst using MSAA seems to have no effect on mobile (visually or on fps).

With Mobile HDR off (thus no MSAA), I get a nice 40fps but a shocking amount of aliasing.

With Mobile HDR on:

  • 2x MSAA – Still too much aliasing - 20 fps approx
  • 4x MSAA – Aliasing just bearable - 19.5 fps approx
  • 8x MSAA – Aliasing generally Ok - 19 fps approx

I’m hoping that “FXAA” or “temporal AA” wont drop the fps so much, even if they don’t look as nice as 8x MSAA.

Is there any way to get these working on this mobile hardware?
