How to use paragon assets with a blank project in order to create all character blueprints, state machines, animation blendspace and controller

I am using a tutorial i found off line on how to set up a character. I am using Kwang from paragon and everything works until i create a animi state, animi montage.
Only thing that I can figure out is the issue is that the basecharacterblueprint is made from the assets from the package but its not a skeletal mesh that I imported and had to set everything up myself. Is this the issue or is there something that i might have to do different to use these pack? I can set up a new controller and get a blendspace to work for jogging and jumping but as soon as i add a montage to attack, it doesnt play. Thank you.
