When Launcher is opened, Engine redownloads

Each time I open the Launcher, I have to redownload the engine for some strange reason. It is saying that I have no engine installed, when I have clearly downloaded it multiple times. I have a slower internet connection, and I cannot waste 2-3 hours each day reinstalling the engine.

This is the second frustrating issue that I have had just in the last week, and I am appalled that this is a subscription service, especially when I haven’t been able to use UE4 for almost 3 weeks now due to the issues that I am experiencing.

Hi LunaticAndrix,

This is an unusual issue I have not heard of before.

When you first installed the Launcher, did you install it to C:\Program Files\Unreal Engine ?

If so, then at that location, you should have another folder for the engine that you have downloaded. If you have downloaded the 4.3 version, then you should have a folder at the above location called “4.3”. Can you check if you already have this folder and its contents, even when the Launcher is telling you that you need to install?

Thanks

Also, we definitely want to identify what is causing the issues with your Launcher, and find the solutions, but please be aware that you do have an alternate option to use the Editor if the Launcher proves to be an obstacle. It requires a bit more setup and does require Visual Studio 2013 (or Xcode on Mac), but you are always welcome to download and compile the engine source code.

Information for this process can be found in the links below:

Please remember that this is not a solution to your problem, only an alternate option. We would still like to continue to troubleshoot your issue and find a solution for you.

Cheers
