After I have re-targeted a set of animations can I update and replace them?

Because game development is an iterative process I can’t believe this wouldn’t be possible but other forums seem to indicate that what I’m about to describe below isn’t possible.

I have a set of animations that I’ve imported and retargeted inside Unreal. They all work fine. They have been used in blueprints and are working in the game.

Now I want to make changes and update them. I can re-import the original animation. However, when I again retarget the animations instead of saving over the current copy a “1” is appended to the name. Is there any way I can overwrite and update the existing animations that have already been retargeted?

Have you attempted to re-import the assets that have been re-targeted?

As in re-import the base then instead of re-targeting, re-import the re-targeted assets too?

Yes I have and I get this error: (See attached file.)

I assume the problem is that this file was not “imported” but instead created from another asset that was imported. I don’t see any other option that would make sense… re re-target, update, etc.

I can reimport the original asset but it doesn’t seem to affect the re-targeted file.
