iTunes installed from Windows store doesn't work

Hi all,

Please help: I’m trying to package a project to iOS using Windows + SSH to a Mac, which had been working fine but unfortunately I decided to update iTunes and now it only downloads from the Windows app store. As I downloaded and installed it, it requested me to uninstall my old version, which unfortunately I said yes not realising the danger.

Now every time I try to package the project Unreal Engine tells me that iTunes appears not to be installed. When I go to the iTunes website it always directs me to the Windows App Store.

Please help - how do I get this back into working?

Thanks,
Ale

All - if you use Unreal Engine and is considering installing the Microsoft Store version of iTunes - DON’T. Trust me. It not only alters some components Unreal requires, it also breaks any future installation of iTunes - Microsoft Store based or not

I’ll report back when I finish solving this issue.

Bottom line: never ever install iTunes through Microsoft Store if you develop apps for iOS using Unreal Engine.

Ok, the way I found to circumvent this problem is to uninstall every last piece of Apple software from the computer (clean uninstall) and reinstalling it back from a downloaded version of iTunes (which you can get from the likes of CNET).

After I did it, Unreal Engine went back to recognise iTunes however another error came in which I have no idea how to solve (it’s related to RenderDocPlugin - I’ll open a separate post for that). It was working before so there is a chance the errors might be related somehow.

Hello Al,

This is a known issue and the current solution is to NOT download iTunes from the Windows Store.

Thanks,

I’m struggling with the same issue - I installed itunes via windows store over a year back. I’ve tried uninstalling everything apple, including icloud from my computer, but I’m still getting the ‘install itunes’ dialogue when trying to launch the game to by phone. @ananias did you manage to solve this issue? @ are there steps to solve this issue?

Did you figure it out? I just fked up and updated because I assumed it would fix the “not installed” issue, but now it wont even come up with Windows 10 version.

I can’t find a previous version to download either that doesn’t seem like a virus. The CNET version the guy above said just links to apple now…

@mattxm I’m afraid I didnt :frowning: sorry.

Guys, download from Apple’s legacy iTunes download and then update it up
