Unreal Engine 4.20 always crashes with alembic files

Hi,
I get Alembic files which where created in Houdini. They work with 4.19 without any problems. But with version 4.20 I am not able to import these files with geometric cache option turned on anymore . I get always a crash no matter what I choose for import options. (in the meantime I tried many different combinations - without success)

Is this a known problem? Will this be fixed?

alembic import always make my pc hang no metter its import as skeleton mesh or geometery chache

i tried 4.16 to 4.20 all verion only drawback i feel in engine is not reliable for alembic file that work fine in unity but crash or hang in unreal engine please help if any one find solution i am asking same question from many year but not get answer till now

Same here. I get a crash when trying to import an alembic file (exported from Blender)

I had to get one of our coders to fix the importer. Looks like they changed it in 4.20, and it tries to assign the normals from frame 0 of the cache to every subsequent frame, which obviously fails if you have a different mesh per frame

I’m going to try 4.21 …My friend gave me some Houdini alembic files that I had trouble getting into Unreal a few versions ago too…I read in 4.21 they made some crash-fixes to the alembic - a lot of it was focused on Skeletal Alembic…If interested I did a Tutorial on the Geometry Cache (using 4.21) it works better again.
