Standalone/Packaged Game way slower than PIE

Hi,

it’s already being discussed in the forum (Running in Standalone mode is much slower than Separate Window... - Rendering - Unreal Engine Forums), but I think it should also be on here.

When playing in the editor (or in a separate window), my game runs fine (capped at 60fps), but as soon as I run it as standalone or the exe after packaging it, the performance is really bad (~35fps at some locations). This is independent from the scalability settings (all set via console commands) - PIE with highest settings still runs faster than standalone with lowest settings (which looks horrible).

Any ideas? Thanks!

Howdy anteevy,

Thank you for reporting this issue. Would be able to provide any log files on the issue? Could you also provide your DXdiag so I may further investigate? Any additional information on the issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and have a great day!

Hey anteevy,

Just wanted to check in with you and see if anything has changed since the 4.4 release yesterday? If the issue is still occurring, please let me know.

Also, Do you have multiple windows open (Editor, standalone, etc.) when you are seeing the game getting laggy?

Thanks!

Hi, thanks for the reply!

I’ve somehow (at least temporarily) solved this problem. I had a particle with light component that is used many times in the level. After removing the light, I’ve got ~20fps more in the editor, but over 100fps more in the standalone builds. Also strange is that this was only fixed after reexporting the project twice, so I’m not really sure whether that was really the problem. As you can see, I’m quite confused but don’t dare to change anything now as long as it works. I don’t have upgraded to 4.4 yet.

Thanks!

Hey anteevy,

I am going to mark this issue as resolved since you have found a workaround that is working. If the issue does pop up again in the future, please feel free to re-open this project so that I may look into the issue once again.

Thanks and have a great day!
