What are the issues with my Character when I import?

When I try to import my custom character, two different times, I still get this same bug.

Thank you for your report.

If we are unable to reproduce the issue, or we need additional information, our staff member will comment here with additional questions. Hi Darkbreed,

Can you provide some clarification on the issue you’re having. I’ll need the information from the link above for “How to report a bug” to proceed.

If you’re unclear or have any questions feel free to ask!

Thank you!

My apologies, for some reason my post didn’t have the image I attached, I’ll see if I can correct that.

the link you’ve provided comes up with an error:
“An Internal error has occurred and we are sorry for the inconvenience.
We are doing our best to fix the problem as soon as possible.”

I’ve even tried restarted my PC to see if it helps any of these issues. No lucky.
IF you need any further info, let me know.

The link seems to work now but may have been an issue with AnswerHub for a few moments. Here is the information that was on there though:

Build version: The version number of the Unreal Engine which you are currently experiencing the issue on.

For example: 4.0.1 - 2027741 (This is found in the editor under Help > About Unreal Editor)

Write a detailed description of the issue you are experiencing here. Please remember to include all potentially relevant information, such as whether you have confirmed that the issue is occurring with default settings, or if it is only with your custom project.
We encourage you to include screenshots or link to videos whenever they may prove helpful in understanding the issue.

Repro Steps

Action 1 (example: Open an Actor Blueprint)

Action 2 (example: Add an ‘Event Begin Play’ node to the EventGraph)

Action 3 (example: Connect the above to a ‘Print String’ node)

Etc.

Let us know, does the issue occur 100% of the time for you with these steps? Or does it happen less frequently?

I’m not too sure, just looking at your image, but are you importing it as a skeletal mesh with its rig? Are you getting any warning on import?

Sorry the late reply, I was out of town.

Build version: 4.3.1 -2226335++depot+UE4-Release+4.3

I created a new folder for the imported character: Zombie1
Then I clicked import, find the file and import it. Since all my other imports came in new issue, I click check to make sure textures are ticked and click import.

Repro Steps

Action 1 Import as Skeletal Mesh. (Choose skeletal: None)
Ticked boxes are: Import Morph Targets, import animation (none selected), Import mesh LODs, import Rigged Mesh, Use time 0 pose for ref pose, preserve smoothing groups. Import Textures, Import Materials. Override FullName, Covert Scene.

Action 2 Click import, and after letting it build, I get the message log: WARNING: No smoothing group information was found in this FBX scene. Please make sure to enable to enable the “Export smoothing groups” option in the FBX Exporter plug-in before exporting the file.

Action 3 Google Exporter Plug-in. So far I haven’t found the right solution. What I’ve seen mostly deals with UDK and Maya. But I’m not using Maya for the models.

I know it’s something I’m not doing right.

Hey guys, I’m having a similar, if not the same issue here! I did all the steps Darkbreed had performed as well.

I get the whole smoothing error as well, however my random spike is in a more awkward place on my model haha!

No idea what is going on, unless I need to bring it into a different modelling package to fix?

I swear I commented on this but mustn’t of committed my post!

I’m having the same issue in UE4.4.0 I get the smoothing group issue and I have the same import set-up as Darkbreed.

Check out my weird mesh spike as well.

From what I’ve looked into this look to be possibly something with the painted weights.

Would it be possible for both of you to try repainting those weights to see if this resolves the issue?

Here are some links to similar issues I’ve seen and they all reference weight painting for the issue.

Let me know if this helps!

im having this exact same problem. every mesh that is weighted to a skeleton comes out spiky. seeing as i use fuse and that automatically paints the weights i have no clue how to fix this… can someone help?

This has been reported with UE-12017.

Once a fix has been submitted internally I’ll post back here with more information.

Thank you!
