Ue4 Crashes When Using Solid State Drive

link textWhen Using Solid State Drive Ue4 always crashes…the drive disappears altogether and i have to swap sata ports to get the bios to recognize it…i googled this and some people have had this problem although not ue4 related, and they say it is either controllers on cheap ssds or heat issues, my ssd isnt an overly expensive model but runs fine when ue4 isnt running and doesnt heat up at all…I just installed the 4.4 preview and it seems to crash more than 4.3…it can happen at anytime but mostly it happens when shaders are compiling or importing fbx which i assume has the most disk usage…any tips from users who have also had issues would be great…ive tried all bios sata settings and installed pci express sata card as well but still same results, next step new motherboard…its for sure happening more since installing 4.4 preview though

added dxdiag.txt to original post the ssd is a kingston ssdnow300 240gb and im only using blueprints in Ue4…thanks for your help eric

Hey -

After doing a bit of research there appears to be a general problem with the Kingston firmware 5.06 and not the original firmware 5.05. See, if you are not already on 5.05, if you can downgrade your firmware version from the Kingston website.

I cannot guarantee that this will fix your problem, but it is the best solution currently as I cannot get it to reproduce with the SSDs we currently have available to us in house.

thanks for your help eric…i have 2 kingston ssds and the older one has different firmware than the newer 240g so i might test that one as the primary drive…ive contacted kingston about downgrading the firmware as their software doesn’t help…I’ll never buy a kingston ssd again though
