I wanted to use the unreal engine and I have the same processor. Since the epic launcher didn’t work I tried to download the sources from githug and compile them but still got error. I found the solution here.
Now I am no expert but from what I managed to gather is that when you start epic launcher and unreal editor there is an OpenSSL session intiation(for reasons I do not know). However there are multiple versions of OpenSSL based on the platform you will execute said launcher.
Linux OS uses OpenSSL version 1.0.2h and Windows OS uses version 1.0.2g. The difference is in the last letter which represents bug fixes and the bigger the letter means more bugs are fixed. In other words version 1.0.2h has bugs fixed that 1.0.2g doesn’t.
So it seems that Apollo Lake processor when try to start epic launcher on Windows OS, it initiates OpenSSL 1.0.2g session which throws an exception. That exception/bug is fixed in version 1.0.2h.
I could be very wrong but I hope it’s worth the investigation by people who understand.
This folder comes from the launcher source code which isn’t available to us. Only Unreal Engine 4 editor can be downloaded by us. We must wait until EGL development team notice and try to fix the bug.
