New to UE4 and need some help

Hi, I’m new to UE4 and I was wondering what program can I use to create assets for games, I’m mainly focusing on mobile so I don’t need something complex. I was thinking of creating something with this kind of art style

If you know of any software that can make assets please tell me, preferably something free or cheap, thanks!

One word - Blender.

can you make 2D assets in Blender but make them look 3D, something like Clash of Clans has.

i agree. blender is the most versatile free modeling software ive seen. it has a bit of a learning curve though as many modeling programs do, 2.8 should lessen the curve though. yea though blender is the way to go even some major studios have used blender over other engines.

all you maya and max users im not hating your software is great too, but blender is much cheaper so it is more applicable to this situation.

you could but i wouldnt recommend blender for 2d sprites unless you want your workflow to be something like 3d model then render to image. where blender shines for game assets anyways is for 3d modeling, texturing, and creating textures (such as rendering from 3d to normals). if your making sprites then you may want to look into a drawing or image software like krita or gimp. i personally dont work in 2d and am horrible at drawing so i couldnt tell you whats best, but the ones recommended seem popular and have quite the features.

Ok, thank you, I’ll check them out.

Your best bet is to try out all the popular programs and go with the one you like best… It is 100% personal preference, because all of them can achieve amazing results, and all of them will require skills to achieve those results. Go with what you like, and what you find easiest to learn.

I personally use and like Maya, Zbrush, Substance, and Photoshop, but there is also 3ds Max, Blender, Modo, Houdini and many more depending on your needs, etc… Most of them have free trials, some cost a lot of money and some are free.
