Why am I unable to open my map?

…/…/…/…/…/…/.umap appears to be an asset file!

I worked all day last night, my PC auto backup’s files in the night, but it made a backup of the same version that isn’t able to open!

I need my map back!

I tried taking it out, putting back in etc, doesn’t work

How are you trying to open your map exactly? If you put the map file into your ‘Maps’ folder in content and then run the editor and go to File->open Level, can you see your map file there?

The map file is there. However it says:

./…/…/…/…/…/level1.umap appears to be an asset file!

Yesterday it worked fine, I saved normally, closed the editor. When I booted my laptop this morning, opened the editor normally, but when loading the map, it gave me this error.

Hi ,

What was the last thing you did in the project before this problem started occurring? Does this happen in a blank project with no additional content?

Hello, it only occurs with that specific map file. I can use the project, just not that umap file. I saved, I closed the computer and the program, that’s it. Anyway, I want to know if there’s a way to get the file working again?

Hi ,

What I mean is with the map file before saving and closing, did you add anything to the viewport? Did you make any blueprint alterations? The more I know about what specific activities you were taking before closing the editor down the easier it may be to find out what happened. I have another user who has reported a similar bug here: .umap file appears to be an asset - Getting Started & Setup - Epic Developer Community Forums

Is his situation similar to what happened to you?

Hi ,
