Datasmith not importing Sketchup textures with model

Hello,
I’ve been having trouble lately getting textures to import from SU to UE using Datasmith. My first project went as it was supposed to, but now every time I import a model I have no textures and everything is covered with the default green bubble material. There might be one texture imported but all of the others are ignored. If I import an object like a couch or a table there is no problem. But when I import a structure that’s when the trouble starts. I’ve updated all of the extensions and plugins. Any ideas? Thank you.

I’m also experiencing the same problem. I have exported my model from ArchiCAD 21 as a sketch file, opened it in Sketchup 2017, where it displays correctly including materials. I export using data smith plugin but when I import into UE 4.20 it appears as though any material which was a std archiCAD material has carried across but those which were custom materials are not.

Simon,
I found a solution that seems to be working for me over here. Export your Archicad file as a Collada .dae file and then import that into SU for your Datasmith export. At least for me, the materials are translating and displaying properly. Let me know if it works for you.

Yes that worked perfectly for me. I’d like to know why it doesn’t work through Sketchup but at least this gives us a workaround for now. Having now got a good workflow and result getting the model into unreal its now time to get to grips with everything else. Thanks

Yes, getting the model imported correctly is the tip of the iceberg. There is so much to learn with this program but it gets easier everyday. The tutorials on the UE website that are geared towards architecture are amazing and easy to follow. You have probably seen them. If not, it is an incredible place to get started assuming you’re not past this level yet.

Hi guys I’m also struggling with importing my model from sketchup to Unreal Engine through datasmith. I was to import the model but saw tiny white bubbles all around my model in Unreal Engine, being new, I didn’t know what to do or handle to situation so I closed everything out of frustration and started looking for solutions which brought me here. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you saving your model from Archicad into SU? If so, try the workaround I suggested above. It seems to work as far as getting the textures in and not getting the bubbles. I’ve never had a problem getting the textures to work correctly when the model is initially built in SU. That always seems to work fine. If you are only using SU and the textures aren’t importing, I’m not sure what the solution is. Let me know if it works for you.

I’m using 3DS max but what is a collada.dae?
