I am pretty new on UE4, doing a course in college right now. Everything was working fine using my own computer and the school computer, switching between them using an USB as the drive for the files. But on my own computer it just crashes all the time. It appears to be quite random when it decides to crash. Sometimes it’s on start, sometimes it’s when I’m opening a bluepring or sometimes it’s totally random. My laptop is also quite well specced with a GTX 1050 and a quad core processor so it should be able to handle the program better than the school computers.
I’ve followed the troubleshooting guides for crashes but nothing seems to help. I got the crash file but I can’t really read anything out of it… Thought someone here might know what’s up! crash report
Yeah I remember having a similar issue when I was first getting started a long time ago. I remember as a result I developed a nervous tick where I hit CTRL+SHIFT+S after pretty much every action (and I still do ).
Not sure if your school will allow updating the engine version, but that’s something that definitely worked for me (if you’re going to update note that you can’t load projects on older engine versions/revert so make sure you always have a master backup tucked away safe in case the worst happens). Sorry I can’t be more useful on this, hopefully someone more knowledgeable stumbles along soon.
You could try right clicking each of your folders in the content browser and selecting “Fix Up Redirectors In Folder”, not sure if it’ll do anything but it’s good practice anyways.

Hi,
I recently reinstall Windows on my PC, after which I turned off the “File indexing” on the hard drive, and immediately noticed that the Unreal Engine began to crash very often. No matter what I did, I just launched the project, imported textures or inserted a new blueprint, it just randomly crashed. Later I turned on the “File indexing” on the hard disk and everything started worked fine. Try it, maybe this is the reason.
