Foliage Painting "Collision with world" not behaving

Been trying to use the foliage painter to paint some forest areas in my level. Whilst selecting multiple tree species, and having the “collision with world” check box ticked, which by the description of the tooltip makes a check for overlapping bounding boxes when placing and doesn’t place instances where the boxes overlap to prevent models that clip with each other being placed.

However, when using multiple tree species this does not seem to be working properly. Whether i set the scaling value to 0.1 or 20 or any values in between, when i brush multiple tree models a lot of them still are placed inside/on top of one another. When placing a single object, it seems to mostly work, though i have had uncommon instances of objects still slightly clipping with one another.

I don’t know if there is a step i’m missing, or if this is just flat out broken at the moment? It would confuse me greatly if this was “intended” function of the tool.
