Using World composition and sky

Hello,
First I am sorry if I did mistake but I am not english so I don’t speak very well…

I am discovering the tool “world composition”. I watched unreal engine tutorial and some other good tutorial on youtube. But when I tried to do it myself I never manage to see correctly my levels in the …

In fact, I have a persistent level with nothing in it. I have 2 more levels : Newmap1 (that is just a test) that have a little landscape, and Test_map a level that is already create with many static mesh and a landscape.
When I clicked on the button named “summons world composition” I am not able to see my two levels correctly.

A screenshot to explain what I see :

The green square you see is my level “NewMap1” that just has a landscape.
The big black area on the right is my level Test_Map. I have no idea why all is black and why I can’t see the level correctly.
In fact, the first time I tried instead of the black area I saw my sky instead. My sky was covering all the black area and I thought that if I removed the sky, then I will be able to see something. But as you can see it is not the case…

Just a little other screenshot to show you what happend if I unzoom the world :

Yes, it’s so big that we do not even see the green landscape anymore

At the middle of the square we can see a white spot. I think, the white spot is my map, so I put the green landscape near it to know :

And after, I saw that after doing thisn my test_map and newMap was approximately at the same place so I was able to move (in the viewport) the green landscape to put it just on the side of my Test_Map.
You can see my two maps in the viewport after what I have done :

And there was the result if I have a sky in my persistent level as I would like

(Yes the big blue area is again my test_map…)

So, how could I solve the problem of the big black area and have my map test_map displayed correctly in the world composition tools ?
Thank you in advance for your answers !

Kind Regards

You do need a sky and directional light to see things in the scene. Also make sure your levels are loaded. (Window → Levels → Right click all level names and click load.)

Thank you for your answer Steve SybrSyn.
I would like to know, when you say add a sky and directional light, do you mean to add them in the persistent level or in all the levels ?

Because when I try to add sky and light in my persistent level it cause the last screenshot I gave you (with the blue area). Maybe I am not doing it well ? I follow official epic tutorial and do as they did, but since i already have a level it cause a problem…

No problem. I wish I could help more but I cannot think of anything else it could be. Maybe someone else will have a better answer.

And by official epic tutorial are you referring to this one on youtube? It’s a really great live stream that explained everything very well:

Ok, I still have a problem with world composition.

If I have a folder named world composition, where I have a persistent level. If I have a folder named maps where I have some levels.
How can I do if I would like to use my existing level from maps in my persistent level of world composition ?

Maybe you will say me to move my levels into the world composition folder ? but if I do that, then the editor say me that there is issues with references and that he isn’t able to save the map. If I don’t mind then the level is in the world composition folder. And then I am not able to see it above my persistent level in Level window and if I save my persistent level, then this level TOTALLY disappear from my content…
Same way, if I would like to load the level by clicking on it (before it disappear…) it said me “unable to load the level”…

Have you an idea of how I can do ?

Thank you !

Ok, so I find the solution for this myself : I had to copy the map, not move.
(But it is quite strange that I have this message. I have it if I would like to move my map from a folder to another and if I would like to rename too. I am not able to rename anymore…)

BUT I still have a problem… My persistent level has a sky and lights. If I add a level named cities (that hasn’t sky) that already exist (so I move it from another folder), then I can’t see things correctly in “summons world composition” (the little icone on the right in levels)
I see this :

So I don’t know how to solve it. I would like to see my map and I don’t know why it is not the case…
I repeat, I have no sky in my level “city”, the sky is in persistent level.

Thank you in advance
