"Failed to produce item" error

I’m using VS 2013 Professional, Windows 7 64-bit.

The engine compiled perfectly until I reinstalled windows and tried to recompile it.

I get quite a few of these throughout the compile:

" INTERNAL COMPILER ERROR in ‘E:/Program Files (x86)/Microsoft Visual Studio 12.0/VC/bin/amd64\cl.exe’
2> Please choose the Technical Support command on the Visual C++
2> Help menu, or open the Technical Support help file for more information"

And at the very end I get
“2>ERROR : UBT error : Failed to produce item: [unreal engine path] / UE4Editor-UnrealEd.lib”

I shortened the path because it was enormous. This was with the debug editor mode. I’ve tried development editor and it did the same thing. The internal compiler error makes me want to try reinstalling VS 2013 but are there any other suggestions?

Hello, malignant1.

I would recommend reinstalling VS2013, since it sounds like the problem is with VS, not with the engine. If that doesn’t work, however, let me ask this:
When you reinstalled Windows, did you get a fresh pull of UE4 from github, or did you still have the old files from before your reinstallation?

Hi malignant1,
