Search help

  • Simple searches use one or more words. Separate the words with spaces (cat dog) to search cat,dog or both. Separate the words with plus signs (cat +dog) to search for items that may contain cat but must contain dog.
  • You can further refine your search on the search results page, where you can search by keywords, author, topic. These can be combined with each other. Examples
    • cat dog --matches anything with cat,dog or both
    • cat +dog --searches for cat +dog where dog is a mandatory term
    • cat -dog -- searches for cat excluding any result containing dog
    • [cats] —will restrict your search to results with topic named "cats"
    • [cats] [dogs] —will restrict your search to results with both topics, "cats", and "dogs"

Player Blinking System (SCP Style)

So i've been working on a UE4 SCP Remake and got some stuff done, and what im asking is kinda simple, but i just quite cant figure out how to do it.

I already finished the blinking system, kinda, every 11 seconds a black HUD appears for 0.2 seconds, and if you press space you auto blink and if you hold space you blink forever.

The only things left i need to do about it is make it so if you do manual blinking, the delay of 11 seconds i set resets to 11 again.

I also wanted to try out with the hud, i found in the game files everything i needed but i dont know how to make it, i dont know if i'd need to do like 12 huds 1 with a line in the blink bar deleted or what, but what im concentrating now on is the manual blinking problem.

Consider explaining what Blinking and SCP is.

SCP is a fictional foundation with monsters that was thought of a LONG time ago, in 2013 a person made a huge game about it, and 1 of its features is blinking.

And blinking is well, what you do with your eyes to protect them and stuff.

Is this like a container that accumulates blinks that the player is allowed to trigger? Or the bar just shows the time remaining to the next automatic blink? (like in the video?)

Asking questions because this is a tad bizarre. Definitely uncommon. Probably very easy to implement once I understand what's required.


Is there always the same amount of blink bars throughout the game or is this dynamic? I think this whole thing could be contained in the widget with a single timer that just adds seconds, when it reaches set amount, it resets.

Yeah, sorry for being so simplistic, i want it like in the video, where bars go out 1 by 1 and when they all go out you blink and it auto refills.

Im also trying to get the blueprint you sent to work, but atm im kinda having troubles, will keep up to date if theres smth i need help with it

Though for the remake im trying to make a new hud that might just have a progres bar going from right to left and restarting, like the bars but smoother, havent got it to work though

No problem, keep hammering at it until it works the way you need. In the meanwhile, see if you can adapt this to your needs. Not entirely sure whether this works how you envisioned but it might be a start:

This is fully dynamic, so you can set the BlinkerBars to any value, here's one with 25:

The blinker bar widget is just a border with a padded image. The main widget is just a horizontal box set to autosize on the canvas.

Yeah, i think this could be nice, i had a different blueprint to make the blink work so i got kind of confused but it was kinda messy so at the end ill start making a new one, and for the HUD it looks like it might actually work

Heres my 1st blueprint mixed up with a 2nd i tried making after you sent me the first image:

Just one note here, it's much more efficient to simply hide / show widget rather than destroy / create it every time you need it. Especially for something you keep doing in a system like this. Create the widget once, on Begin Play, store it's reference and use that. Up to you, really.

It's probably insignificant in this very case but a good practice anyway.

Just got it to work, it was as simple as changing the delay to a triggerable delay and making it so when spacebar is released it restarts it, im really sorry for wasting your time, ill put it as resolved
