See-through decal possible?

I’m wondering if it is possible to make a decal that when placed on the terrain allows you to see through it? Since my understanding of decals is that they are simply placed on top of the underlying material, I wouldn’t think this is possible, but is there some other method of doing this, like maybe changing the terrain material in a selected area somehow? Thanks.

Well since decals are things that are placed on top of the base material, I don’t think it’s possible. Decals | Unreal Engine Documentation
One possibility could be to use a mask with a texture whose position would be adjusted depending of the location of an actor in the scene (converting 3D location to 2d texture coordinates).

Too bad. I’m not fond of the idea with the texture. Is it possible with a bit of post-processing ? It’s possible to outline an object that would be hidden, so maybe it’s possible to render a part of the scene at a location, which make a see-through effect ?
