Using the ability system plugin with Paragon characters

Hi,

I’m using the ability system plugin to build my game, but I wish to use character skeletal meshes that have the weapon that comes with it (like the Paragon characters, which I intend to use as benchmarks).

Is there a way I can reference the weapon inside my character mesh to use with the melee and ranged ability system or will I have to separate them in Maya beforehand?

If so, I would rather create a separate system for base melee and ranged attacks but I would like to get some opinions first.
