Cinematic camera preview renders incorrectly when simulating?

Hi,
I’ve set up a scene with the sequencer keying in a series of actors visibility and scale. It includes particle effects. The sequencer preview seems to ignore these and shows them all regardless at full scale when simulating. The camera track is ignored too, and the camera reverts to 0.0.0 and doesn’t move. Piloting the camera in the viewport gives the same problem.

Is this a known issue or have do I have a problem with a wayward checkbox?
