Search help

  • Simple searches use one or more words. Separate the words with spaces (cat dog) to search cat,dog or both. Separate the words with plus signs (cat +dog) to search for items that may contain cat but must contain dog.
  • You can further refine your search on the search results page, where you can search by keywords, author, topic. These can be combined with each other. Examples
    • cat dog --matches anything with cat,dog or both
    • cat +dog --searches for cat +dog where dog is a mandatory term
    • cat -dog -- searches for cat excluding any result containing dog
    • [cats] —will restrict your search to results with topic named "cats"
    • [cats] [dogs] —will restrict your search to results with both topics, "cats", and "dogs"

A Question About Payment

Hello, I'm a game dev student currently in my last year of studies. Recently, I've been asked by a small jewelry store owner to make him a program to show off his products as well as keep track of his business (ie. customer records and stuff). I was thinking of doing it in Unreal but I got a bit worried about a few things. One, and this kinda feels silly to ask but, am I allowed to use Ue4 for something like this? And two, seeing how it's a one time request and I'll be paid once for a single copy, how would I go about giving Epic games their cut?

I'm still pretty new to this side of things and I don't mind just using something else but any feedback would be nice :)

(I reposted this because i didn't see the "Legal and Licensing section earlier)

Yes!

And two, seeing how it's a one time request and I'll be paid once for a single copy, how would I go about giving Epic games their cut?

You have a couple options here.

  1. You can distribute under the standard EULA, where you'll owe 5% royalties to Epic. However, you do not owe any royalties for the first $3,000 (every quarter). Under this model, you can sell your product to others, including to the general public.

  2. You can distribute under the Studio EULA for free (i.e., no royalties owed to Epic). Under this model, you can only sell to a single third party. Since it sounds like you're doing a custom job for a single client, this may work for you.

Either way, you should review the EULAs carefully. If you want more specifics on the mechanics of payment, check out this page.
