[request x 2] Plane / rectangular lights

Hi Guys,

I know it has been mentioned and I know it has been discussed so I’d like to go into a little bit more depth to fuel your dicussions among the developers.

There’s been a massive influx of ArchViz artists interesting in using UE4, myself included. I’d wager 99% of all interior ArchViz images use plane lights as they really are an invaluable tool in our workflow. It’s actually the most important tool for us and I would love to have it implemented in UE4. I’m sure if it were implemented, you would see more artists from our field really investing some time in UE4.

Is there any likelyhood of this becoming an option in the near future? I can’t stress enough how well it would be recieved to a growing market for UE4.

Cheers.

Hey Mr.Snrub -

Thank You for your suggestion I will pass it along to our developers for their consideration. I know I have had some success in using the IES profiles in simulating some of the same effects that a VRay Rectangular light would give in Max or Maya.

Thank You Again -

Eric Ketchum

Hi Eric,

Please could you share your success in using IES profiles to simulate a vray rectangular light ?

I currently have this exact requirement for my first project in Unreal - the success of which really depends on it !

For my scene I have 300mm wide strip lighting that runs continuously, with no breaks, throughout the ceilings in my building.

I cannot replicate this with the current lights that are available in UE4 - in Vray, a simple plane light (or actually, a mesh light) would be two good solutions.

I use Max.

Your quickest response would be very, very much appreciated.

Kindest regards,
