Are normal maps Y+ or Y- ?

Just wondering if anyone can give a straight answer as to whether normals in UE4 are Y+ or Y-? As far as I’ve found in my searches, everyone says that the Y channel should be highlighted on the bottom but I don’t know if that means Y+ or not.

It is Y-. Having only two options here, you can basically eyeball it :slight_smile:

See, that’s strange because from what everyone says online, Y+ is for Direct X and Y- is OpenGL and UE4 uses Direct X. I was almost certain it uses Y+ but as I said, I have no idea how you tell. Others claim that the Y channel should be highlighted on the bottom which sounds like that might be a description of Y-… I hate that all the info on the subject sounds so contradictory.
