Hold Frame in Sequencer for Media Texture

I’m having an issue where the media source clips are lined up in Sequencer so that they start at certain times (not frame 1001 or zero) but because those times at the sequence beginning, they actually hold on whatever they were at previously (until the clip start time has been reached - so no animation updates are being sent through). This causes issues rendering out mattes for the frames prior to the media clip start frames since the hold frame changes. I essentially want to hold on the first frame but I can’t see any options for doing that. Scrubbing backwards sort of works except there’s multiple clips at different slip positions.

To clarify this is for image sequences that play on quads in the viewport and are triggered to play via Sequencer.

Is there a way to force a hold on the media texture prior to it being reached by the playhead?
