Cannot import animation from Blender

Hey everyone. I thought I’d better post here while I still have some hair left. I’ve rigged up a pair of arms for an FPS using Blender 2.71 which is meant to have had some improvements for exporting to UE4.

I made 2 FBX files. One with a standard pose. Another with a short animation. I can get the skeletal mesh imported no problem. But I can’t seem to get the animated FBX imported. It comes up with a message saying that the file contained no valid takes.

I’ve tried setting just key frames in blender. I’ve also tried setting the animation as an action as well as adding it to the NLA editor but apparently the file still contains no animations according UE4. I can import it into Unity along with animation no problem so what am I missing? Why can’t UE4 find the animation in the FBX?

I seem to have solved the problem. I stumbled across someone with a similar issue in Maya who had to export only the skeleton and not the mesh.

If anyone else is having problems like this then all you have to do is head to export to fbx and make sure that “armature” is the only element that is to be exported. make sure mesh is deselected. I still get a warning that says
“Warning: Asset does not appear to correspond to selected type, and may not import correctly”.
It did import correctly but it’d be interesting to know why that message appears?

hey mortis, read your answer when i was looking for a solution for my mesh animation import. For me when i do it this way, i still get a strange smashes up mesh result from the animation. do you have an example with a working process? Thank you in Advance.
