UE4 Keeps Crashing - I can't do anything....lierally

HI,

I’m new to Game Development and I"m loving the Unreal Engine.

I"m in the process of completing a series of YouTube tutorials - so basic at the moment - that I"m building a landscape with the sculpting tools (sculpt, erosion, hydro erosion, and more).

Since last night, UE4 has crashed (closed, no reason) 9 times.

I’m following the tutorial (I watch the video first - I don’t run both programs at the same time - then complete the steps in my own pace) - so I"m basically watching this guy sculpt a small landscape. Easy!

I go in, create mine, but if i go to the sculpt tool menu too fast (If I don’t move my mouse slow enough) it crashes. So I started moving slower. But once i hit the “erosion” tool - it stops responding - crashes. I went to the settings and found that they were set to “epic” so i tried changing them - it crashed - it literally freezes so then it crashes. I was able to finally set it to a lower setting (low) but that didn’t help.

I literally can’t continue using the engine if it keeps doing this. Please help!

The engine seems to have a bunch of random bugs. I’ve experienced similar things for seemingly no real reason.

What are the specs of your rig? I know a lot of times crashes are caused by your hardware, it also helps to have the engine installed on an SSD because for some reason it seems if it can’t read files fast enough it crashes. A lot.

I’ve got a Dell G7 15
i7 with 16 GB of Ram.
I’ve got Unreal installed on my SSD.

For some reason when I’ve got the laptop plugged in (charging or otherwise) it barely crashes! Not sure why so I’m just keeping it plugged in for the time being.

Thanks for your response.
