Perforce over LAN

Hi all,

I’m having a hell of a time setting up Perforce to work over a LAN network, I can install the P4D server on my local PC and then the P4V client on my local PC again, create the relevant directories and link it all up in source control however I can’t install the P4D server on a separate machine and then connect to that through P4V on other computers, it times out connecting to the server when “logging in” on P4V workstations.

Presumably this might be a firewall issue? As it is finding the server otherwise it gives a different error with the wrong server name, or some other reason I don’t know about?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, there’s a fair few video tutorials out there but they are either local machine only or several years old.

Update:

This was a firewall/permissions issue, I was unable to ping the machine that the server was on, the port used (1666) had to have exceptions in the firewall added.
