How can I retain scale values when converting a group of actors to a static mesh?

When converting a group of actors into a static mesh I’m encountering strange behavior. I have a particular set of meshes where I’m setting the scale to -1 on the “y” value to mirror the mesh. However when converting the group of actors to a single mesh all the meshes that I “flipped” return to their original scale value of 1 resulting in the final converted mesh being “broken” so to speak.

Steps to replicate:

  1. Duplicate a static mesh
  2. Invert any value in the scale of the object to -1
  3. Merge the static mesh actors into a single mesh

Is this a known bug? I was having trouble finding and answer to my issue. Is there a known work around? Or will I have to model and texture a separate mesh to mirror the original?
