updating imported material slot name

So I’m having a problem updating a mesh, the materials all get mis-matched and that’s a major problem due to the cloth setup on the character. I have found in the property editor the imported material slot name, but it will not let me edit this. This means that in order to import the character even close to correctly, I have to rename my shaders to the same garbage name they were. Even then it still detatches the wrong material ID as the detached cloth with breaks the cloth sim. Would be helpful if I could update those imported material slot names
