Search help

  • Simple searches use one or more words. Separate the words with spaces (cat dog) to search cat,dog or both. Separate the words with plus signs (cat +dog) to search for items that may contain cat but must contain dog.
  • You can further refine your search on the search results page, where you can search by keywords, author, topic. These can be combined with each other. Examples
    • cat dog --matches anything with cat,dog or both
    • cat +dog --searches for cat +dog where dog is a mandatory term
    • cat -dog -- searches for cat excluding any result containing dog
    • [cats] —will restrict your search to results with topic named "cats"
    • [cats] [dogs] —will restrict your search to results with both topics, "cats", and "dogs"

Why is Slate UI eating ~17ms in a basically empty project?

I have a scene with a plane that serves as the floor and three lowpoly shapes sharing the same shader. Everything is unlit, simple and there is no UI. I open up stat GPU and I see that something called Slate UI is taking all of my frame time. What's going on here?

That's probably the Editor, profile with Standalone (or Packaged) as they have their own process.

If I launch a Standalone via the editor, I don't get anything despite this. How would I monitor it? alt text

That's a separate issue, but you can still use the stat gpu console command in standalone (and I believe profileGPU too, just type it in the console).

I might be missing something, but neither of those launch parameters do anything, and the console key isn't working in the standalone which makes sense. How would I launch the console or make launch parameters work?

The console key works just fine in Standalone mode for me, are you sure this is how you start it?

Yes, and it's not doing anything. Come to think of it, I'm using an international keyboard which means I can't get a backtick with a single button, and I have assigned another key to open console. I wonder if it's still waiting for the backtick-key in the standalone.

I also have a non-English keyboard, so it's also not bound to the backtick (F10 for me), and it works well in Standalone Mode.

Found a cause: My bindings were in editor settings, I had to separately also change it in project settings - my bad. This is getting a bit offtopic, but why am I seeing these results? This is an empty scene, and I have pretty much everything disabled in project settings too. alt text

To clarify: I tried the exact same scene which I had in the OP where it was only rendering Slate UI, but as a standalone it's doing translucency and post processing and lighting even though all of those things are disabled in project settings, and there is nothing but unlit 4 unlit opaque static meshes which I'm not even looking at.

It's not my field so I can't help much on this topic.

Be sure that your level doesn't have a PostProcessVolume if you don't need it, but even if you don't have it, your player Camera will have its own Post Process Settings (that you can tweak of course).

If you are running the game in editor that is the editor UI which is rendered by Slate. Try running your game in standalone.
