Why does Android build crash without Oculus VR plugin?

I disabled the Oculus VR plugin, restarted, then built my game for Android. I thought I’d remove some plugins I didn’t plan to use, in order to make the Android install size smaller.

However, this resulted in the app crashing immediately after launch every time, on the Android device.

So, I re-enabled the plugin and re-built the app. Now it works again.

I am not using any Oculus or VR features that I’m aware of. Why is it required in order to run the app without crashing it?

It works fine on PC via PIE though, either way.
