Hard shaded edges dont get preserved after importing to ue4

FBX imported into UE4:

Same FBX but imported into Blender:

I’ve tried every single import method for normals and it doesnt seem to change anything at all.

It is definately not the issue with my .fbx file since the hard shaded edges are still there when i import it anywhere else I tried (Blender, Substance painter).

At a glance it looks like a Smoothing Group issue but I might be wrong. For example, the FBX exporter I’m using has it disabled by default.

Substance Painter might auto apply its own, I don’t know it that well, can’t recall.

What I should have asked - is your fbx exporter set up to export Smoothing Groups?

No, this cant be it since if I import it into Substance Painter the hard edges are still there
