Mip related artifacts on texture

I’m having some annoying artifacts on the edges of the textures I’m using (clean high res black and white images). It’s somehow mip related (turning off mip generation makes them go away, changing compression settings makes no difference). Any idea what this could be?

Ah - it was compression after all! While changing the compression quality made no visible difference changing the mode to BC7 solved it. Posting this here in case anyone runs into the Q through searching.
