Search help

  • Simple searches use one or more words. Separate the words with spaces (cat dog) to search cat,dog or both. Separate the words with plus signs (cat +dog) to search for items that may contain cat but must contain dog.
  • You can further refine your search on the search results page, where you can search by keywords, author, topic. These can be combined with each other. Examples
    • cat dog --matches anything with cat,dog or both
    • cat +dog --searches for cat +dog where dog is a mandatory term
    • cat -dog -- searches for cat excluding any result containing dog
    • [cats] —will restrict your search to results with topic named "cats"
    • [cats] [dogs] —will restrict your search to results with both topics, "cats", and "dogs"

Assets randomly can't be saved but can be after PC is restarted - no other UE4 instances open

I haven't figured out the exact pattern yet but after a while in the editor, some assets can't be saved. I would get messages like the following:

The asset '/Game/Artificial_Intelligence/Blueprints/AICharacter/BTT_MoveToAttack' (BTT_MoveToAttack.uasset) failed to save.

Cancel: Stop saving all assets and return to the editor. Retry: Attempt to save the asset again. Continue: Skip saving this asset only.

This happens to old and new assets. Assets I have never touched since importing (static meshes) and assets I edit regularly. Restarting the editor doesn't help, I open it and try to save it and it gives me the error. Once I restart the whole computer, I can once again save these assets but then other assets randomly cannot be saved. I don't have any other UE4 instances open.

Anyone else had a similar problem?

So I found out that Unreal randomly opens up hidden instances of itself. The only way I can tell is when I can't save and go into Processes in Task Manager to find more than one UE4Editor.exe. I close the one that takes up less memory and this allows me to save again. However, it'd be more ideal to not have to close the process everytime, anyone else experience this?

Maybe you had a crash previously and the process didn't properly shut down?

This happens even after I restart the computer and open the project without issue. I would work for a while, be able to save, and then the extra UE4 exe(s) pop up in processes.

That is really strange. Never heard of that happening. Maybe try uninstall and re-install?
