  • You can further refine your search on the search results page, where you can search by keywords, author, topic. These can be combined with each other. Examples
    • cat dog --matches anything with cat,dog or both
    • cat +dog --searches for cat +dog where dog is a mandatory term
    • cat -dog -- searches for cat excluding any result containing dog
    • [cats] —will restrict your search to results with topic named "cats"
    • [cats] [dogs] —will restrict your search to results with both topics, "cats", and "dogs"

Do I need to notify Epic before publishing a free game?

I read in the FAQ that I must notify Epic before I ship a product. Does that mean I can't publish my game without notifying Epic first?

What if I'm doing a truly free game, like a game jam game, with no associated revenue, do I still need to notify Epic before publishing my game? Or can I publish it and then notify Epic after? Or do I need to notify Epic at all?

Thanks for reading,

Yes, please notify Epic of the release of even free games. You can find instructions here.

Please explain why. What if I release a quick draft every week, why do I have to go through the process for something that's meant to a few thousand people, to a very niche. Secondly, it's not even a game, it could be a visualization, proof of concept, bunch of balls spinning in the air, plus, it's not even in united states, it's not even in english language, won't have any support or any website, so this need some clarification what counts for a "free game". Thirdly I'm not shipping anything, no keys are being produced, no boxes are being filled, etc, it would be a barebone FTP/HTTP download from a whatever free hosting site.

I have like 5 smaller projects, they're totally insignificant to anything, I don't have any studio, I'm a dude in a shack, so why would I have to hog the process and do all the legal stuff for this, why would EPIC even bother with this?

EDIT: I will rewrite this comment more clearly to a new question because clearly it has to be separate because I'm not talking about games, completely different kind of release. https://answers.unrealengine.com/questions/590788/do-i-need-to-notify-epic-before-i-release-niche.html
