Licensing for TV Show

Hi There

I have done my research and found similar questions, but my producer has asked that I get a direct answer as existing questions on this topic are now a few years old. I’m sorry but if someone from Epic could answer I would be hugely grateful.

Q : If I use the Unreal Engine to produce renderers for a child’s episodic TV show, produced and released worldwide in 2019, do I have to pay royalties?

thanks for such a great program !

I’m not from Epic, but there exception clearly stated in EULA for “non interactive linear media”:

However, no royalty is owed on the following forms of revenue:

....

....revenue from a Product which solely relies on the Licensed Technology for production of non-interactive linear media (e.g., broadcast or streamed video files, cartoons, or movies) and which is Distributed in a form that does not contain the Licensed Technology or, in order to deliver, rely on servers running the Licensed Technology;

Plese read EULA it quite clearly states what you can and can not do and it quite readable for a legal document:

Just chiming in to confirm is correct. No royalties are due on linear media files that are rendered via UE4.
